New first lady wants to work closely with women and children in Afghanistan

A news that is likely to bring cheer to feminists and win her many admirers, Afghanistan’s first lady has expressed her desire to open a charity organization to help Afghan women and children.

Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, the president-elect who succeeds Hamid Karzai as the next head of state, has said his wife plans to work closely with marginalized women and children in Afghanistan.

According to officials in Dr. Ghani’s team, Rula Ghani ha will soon start her humanitarian work.

Originally from Lebanon, the first lady has been a social worker all her life. She first met Dr. Ghani while he was studying in Beirut University, Lebanon.

Now, as first lady of Afghanistan, she plans to further expand her activities and be a change maker and role model for women in this country.

It is for the first time in Afghanistan that the wife of president will have active part in social activities. Zeenat Karzai, wife of outgoing President Hamid Karzai, avoided arc lights.
