In Kunar, local residents join security forces in their fight against Pak-backed insurgents

In a show of extraordinary valor, the residents of Kunar province on Sunday joined the Afghan security forces in their fight against Pakistan-backed Taliban insurgents.

According to local officials, a large number of armed insurgents attacked Dangam district of Kunar province on Sunday morning.

Security officials quickly swung into action and were joined by local residents in Dangam resident.

According to sources, in the ensuing fight, Taliban suffered huge casualties. At least 8 insurgents were killed and 16 others were injured in the clashes.

Abdul Habib Sayedkhil, security commander in Kunar, said the attack was thwarted jointly by security forces and local residents in the district.

He said the local residents joined the fight after Taliban insurgents, apparently backed by Pakistan, attacked a police booth.

In a separate incident in Sargano district of Kunar province, three insurgents were killed and five others were injured during clashes with Afghan security forces. Two security officials were also injured.

Taliban, meanwhile, claimed that they killed eight police personnel and injured two others. Afghan security officials rejected the claim.

The public uprising in restive Kunar province comes after President Ghani said there is no such thing as good terrorism and bad terrorism. He urged the people in Afghanistan to say no to terrorism.
