At least 11 armed insurgents were killed and six other were injured in a series of military operations conducted by Afghan security forces over the past 24 hours.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoIA), the operations were carried out in Nangarhar, Laghman, Herat, Logar, Paktika, Zabul, Kandahar, Kapisa, Kunduz, Sar-e-Pul, Takhar, Jowzjan, Faryab,Uruzgan and Helmand.
Security forces also diffused many Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Nawa district of southern Helmand province, the statement added.
The statement, however, did not mention the casualties suffered by security forces.
The armed insurgents have upped the ante in recent weeks with the onset of spring season, launching many ferocious attacks in various parts of the country.
President Ashraf Ghani, during his recent visit to the U.S., had said the year 2015 will be a difficult year from security point of view.
“We are dealing with a changed ecology of terrorism,” President Ghani said during a discussion at the Council on Foreign Relations, a New York-based think tank.
