Adib Fahim formally took over as the first deputy of the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the premier security and intelligence agency of Afghanistan, on Monday.
Mr. Fahim, the eldest son of former vice president Marshall Mohammad Qasim Fahim, assumed charge during an impressive ceremony in Kabul, which was attended by many senior government and security officials.
Among those who were present on the occasion include Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, NDS chief Rehmatullah Nabil, and Interior Minister Nurulhaq Ulumi.
Last week, Ajmal ObaidAbidy, the former spokesperson of President Ashraf Ghani, was appointed the second deputy of the NDS.
Mr. Abidy served as President Ghani’s spokesperson for four months.
