Afghan security forces regained control of Chahar Dara district in northern Kunduz province in the early hours of Friday, according to local reports.
Security forces coming from Kunduz city launched a coordinated attack against insurgents early on Friday, eventually pushing them out of the district centre.
Insurgents were forced to withdraw to Naw Abad area of the district where they were confronted by reinforcements coming from Mazar e Sharif.
At the time of filing this report, heavy clashes between security forces and insurgents were underway in Naw Abad.

On Wednesday, barely a day after regaining control of the district, security forces were again pushed out of the district centre by insurgents.

It was a third attempt made by insurgents in last one month to capture the district centre, which shows the growing presence of insurgents in the district.
Meanwhile, insurgents continue to maintain control of Dasht e Archi district of Kunduz, which fell to Taliban last week.
Security situation has worryingly deteriorated in Kunduz province in recent months as Taliban seek to expand the war to northern parts of the country.
Provincial government has faced blistering criticism from parliament members for failing to maintain security in the province.
On Tuesday, Senate chairman Fazlul Hadi Muslimyar demanded the dismissal of Kunduz governor, calling him ‘incompetent’.
