Australian Embassy in Kabul donates 21,000 USD to Afghanistan Cricket Board

To acknowledge the recent achievements of Afghan national cricket team, the Australian Embassy in Kabul donated a cheque of 21,000 USD to the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Tuesday.

The cheque was presented by the Australian envoy to Kabul, Matta Anderson to the acting chief executive officer (CEO) of ACB, Dost Mohammad Nazari during a small event at the Australian Embassy.

Mr. Anderson lauded the incredible passion for cricket in Afghanistan and hailed the achievements of national team on the international stage.

He said the development of cricket in Afghanistan will tremendously benefit the youth of this country and reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to help Afghan cricket scale new heights.

“It provides your country with role models; it provides you with the opportunity to put Afghanistan on the world stage in a positive light,” he said during the event.

He lauded the young cricket players of Afghanistan, especially the Afghan under-19 team, which is currently participating in the ACC U-19 Premier League in Malaysia.

The team has been on a winning spree, comprehensively beating Kuwait, Nepal, UAE and Saudi Arabia in consecutive matches.

Mr. Nazari said the money will be spent in the development of cricket at the grassroots level.

Australia, which is the reigning world champion and a cricketing super-power, has offered support to ACB in the past as well.

In August last year, before the Super Sixes Tournament, Australian Embassy donated cricket equipment to all the zonal clubs participating in the tournament.
