The international community’s intervention in Afghanistan in 2001 aimed to achieve two major missions:rid Afghanistan of terrorism (Al Qaeda) and remove the Taliban, but subsequently added to rebuildthe country. As such, combat military strategy has dominated more than a decade of war against terrorism in Afghanistan which undoubtedly inflicted massive casualties on Al-Qaida and the Taliban1. Despite such casualties, Taliban are still able to recruit2 and mount major attacks such as the one in Kunduz province, the ongoing offensive in Helmand and the suicide attacks throughout Afghanistan. How are the Taliban able to continue to successfully recruit despite sustaining such casualties?
