Call for Expression of Interests for an LLM scholarship



The Friends of the Public-Private Partnership for Justice Reform in Afghanistan (the “FPJRA”) provides scholarships for Afghan law graduates to undertake a Master of Laws (LL.M) at a US law school. We partner with Duke, Notre Dame, Wake Forest and other top-tier US law schools. FPJRA scholarships are offered to candidates who have the potential to become leaders in the field of rule of law, justice and development, human rights and gender.


The scholarships are only available to individuals who are committed to returning to Afghanistan following graduation.


FPJRA may be able to provide up to 3 scholarships for Afghan law graduates to undergo LL.M. studies at law schools in the United States for the 2019-2020 academic school year. We are particularly interested in candidates with an interest in human rights law, commercial law or emerging areas of legal need in Afghanistan. Interested individuals are requested to submit the following materials to by December 8, 2018:

 1. CV (no more than 3 pages)

 2. Personal Statement


The applicant’s personal statement, maximum of 3 pages, must be written in English by the applicant and should describe:

 - The applicant’s reasons and qualifications for applying for the Afghan LL.M. Scholarship Program.

 - What the applicant hopes to accomplish by participating in the

 - Explanation of the applicant’s intention to return to Afghanistan and what the applicant hopes to do in Afghanistan upon completion of the program with the legal training and education

 - This must be the applicant's own work product. Plagiarism or writing by other authors will be grounds for rejection of an application


3. Educational Transcripts and TOEFL score


Please provide English translations for any transcripts not in English. Applications with TOEFL score below 80 will not be considered.

 4. Copy of Passport

 5. Two (2) letters of recommendation: at least one reference must come from a current employer.
