Afghanistan Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 shows country’s progress in areas of food and hospitality

Afghanistan is one of the participating countries in the prestigious Expo Milano 2015 currently underway in Milan, Italy.

The theme for Afghanistan is “Eating for Longevity, Afghanistan Amazingly Real”.

The six-month exhibition started on May 1 and is scheduled to end on October 31. During these six months, Milan becomes a one-stop-destination for exhibitors and visitors from across the world.

More than 140 countries are participating in the expo this year. The theme is ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’, with focus on safe and sufficient food for everyone.

“The aim is to create a unique experience for visitors, as protagonists, increasing their awareness of and seeking their participation in the drive for: the right to food that is healthy, safe and sufficient; the environmental, social and economic sustainability of the food chain and the preservation of taste and of food culture,” says a statement posted on the website of Expo Milano 2015.

The pavilion is supported by USAID-funded Afghanistan Trade and Revenue Project which is designed to support Afghanistan’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), give fillip to Afghanistan’s international trade, and provide the government with support to improve its ability to generate revenue to replace donor assistance, says a statement posted on USAID website.

On August 19, an impressive cultural event was organized at the expo to celebrate Afghanistan’s 96th independence day. Many Afghan artists performed during the program.
